Reviewing Mistletoe and Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler

#mistletoeandmrright #sarahmorgenthaler #bookreview

Although it’s the season of pumpkin spice lattes, leaves changing colours and Halloween, it’s also the season of holiday book publications! And I’m absolutely loving all the Christmas! Although Easter is my favourite holiday, Christmas comes in a close second and reading Mistletoe and Mr. Right satisfied my Christmas cheer appetite. This is the second book after The Tourist Attraction and I came into this book with the eyes of one who hadn’t read the first book.

Mistletoe and Mr. Right by Sarah Morgenthaler takes on the perspective of Zoey’s ever-loyal best friend, Lana. There were some challenges to get up to speed with references from the previous book, such as the relationship dynamics between characters and the background story on how Lana came into power with taking over most of Moose Springs businesses. And so, it took me a bit longer to connect with the story than normal.

However, I loved that this story took us into the start of the relationship between Lana and Rick and how it progressed, rather than the typical romance story about the lead up to how the couple finally got together. I liked that it included some of the uncertainty that comes sometimes with new relationships and the challenges when one of the couple’s friends or family do not support the match. This made their relationship that more realistic, which then helped me further connect with the characters. And Lana and Rick communicated! That is so rare in romance novels and it was such a great change.

I also loved the humour that the author infused throughout the story; keeping it light when deep topics were touched upon. On the other hand, when Lana’s cousin was in that accident, it also provided a necessary depth that amplified the book for me.

I would highly recommend reading The Tourist Attraction first before delving into this funny, but refreshingly brilliant story. I was able to finally read The Tourist Attraction afterwards and they are both books that are not to be missed. Also, we were able to chat with Sarah Morgenthaler who joined our buddy read chat & we got to experience what a sweet person she is.

Thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for the advanced reader’s copy.
